THE PLACEMENT LAW
This Companion is a side book. Its pictures, maps, and reference plates live here only — never inside the six Scripture volumes. The Word itself stands word-perfect and untouched: do not add, do not take away. Here, the ink around the Word is glorified — drawn in ink, washed in gold, and given light.

The Companion walks beside the reader: the lands, the waters, the cities, and the daily life of the people in the Book — so that when you read of Galilee, you can see its shore; and when you read of Jerusalem, you can see the city on its hill.

PLATE I — THE SEA OF GALILEE AT DAWN

Capernaum stood on this shore. From boats like these, on water like this, the Lord taught the multitudes — and stilled the storm.

Nets were a fisherman's whole wealth, mended by hand every day. It was men with these nets in their hands that the Lord called — and they left the nets, and followed Him.

On hills like these, under a sky like this, the angel's announcement fell first on working men at their night watch — the good tidings of great joy.

Every hearer of the parable had watched this exact walk, this exact cast of the hand, a hundred times. The Lord took the most ordinary work in the world and made it carry the kingdom.
